Your wine barrel has been sanded & treated and there are extra pins in the loops!
We do recommend that you re-treat your barrel every few months….
Apply a mixture of raw linseed oil and turpentine.
NOTE: Why turpentine? It helps the oil dry quicker!
In half and half measurements make a mixture and apply directly onto the wine barrel wood with a cloth or sponge allow the oil to soak in.
Leave the oil to soak in for a while…only then remove all surface oil with a dry clean cloth or roller towel. When applied it seals the pores of the wood blocking the penetration of moisture and protects the wine barrels from harsh elements!
Handy TIPs!
• Treat barrels every 6 months!
• Re-treat only when the wood is completely dry and not after they wet from the rain or watering if stored outside
• Sunlight liquid shines the silver loops and removes “rusty” brown marks.
Apply any food grade mineral oil directly onto board with a cloth or roller towel, apply in the direction of the grain, allow the oil to soak in. Leave the oil to soak in for a while only then remove all surface oil with a dry clean cloth. When applied, mineral oil seals the pores of the wood blocking the penetration of moisture.
Handy TIPs!
Hot Soapy Water is best for cleaning the board and never leave submerged in water or wash board in a dish washer. Let the board dry thoroughly.
To eliminate garlic, onion, fish, or other smells:
• Coarse salt or baking soda – Rub the board with coarse salt or baking soda. Let stand a few minutes and wipe salt or baking soda from board, and then rinse and leave to dry.
• Lemon / Vinegar – Rub fresh lemon juice or rub a cut lemon over the surface of the cutting board to neutralize onion and garlic odours. And then rinse and leave to dry.
Wooden boards need mineral oil applied weekly to once a month to make sure the grain is sealed against moisture and bacteria. The oil also helps to prevent the seams from pulling apart or cracking.
