Our story
Barrel Westwood & Co is a family run business husband and wife team based in Cape Town. The owners, Doug & Jess, are both equally as passionate about good food, quality products and wine!
Doug has been working for more than 20 years in the wine industry therefore has established excellent long-term relationships with local wine makers and wine farm owners over the years. After the birth of their daughter they decided to turn a hobby into a registered wine barrel business in 2018 that supplies wine barrels locally, nationally around South Africa and even internationally.
The Factory
The core business is supplying wine barrels to clients, that have been upcycled and repurposed for the use of planters, firewood holders or conversation pieces for home décor. Each barrel is unique and locally sourced off different wine farms in the Cape Winelands, so they come straight out of the wine cellar rooms and are transported to the factory. Each wine barrel is made from original French oak wood and imported for the original purpose of winemaking. Once the barrels have made beautiful matured, French oak infused wines over a few wine seasons or years and the barrels are no longer needed in the process of wine making they are “tipped out”. Barrel Westwood & Co refurbish the barrels at the factory by sanding and treating them with a natural Linseed oil.
The wine barrels are delivered weekly to clients nationwide from local Cape Town areas to national regions such as Johannesburg, Pretoria, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein, Durban, and Pietermaritzburg.
The business has also diversified into making other items from the wine barrels including furniture, benches, bar stools, ice barrels, candle holders, coat hangers, smoking chunks, cheese boards and even dog beds!
American Oak Wood Boards
Barrel Westwood & Co also supply a beautiful American oak board range from round to square, small to large and also extra-large items such as Butchers Blocks and Lazy Susan’s. Supplying local restaurants and corporate gifting companies with specialised personalised engraved boards, or clients with custom requests therefore all designs or ideas are welcome, and no job is too small!
Pine Wood Planter Boxes
Further to this, the Barrel Westwood team are proud to have launched a local range of pine wood planter boxes that are all hand made with brand new materials. The sizes range from small to large, flat to tall and even custom orders are welcome! There is an option to buy them with a dark oak varnish stain or in natural pine and pre-lined with a natural fabric lining so you can plant immediately in them.
Pine Crates
Barrel Westwood & Co also supply beautiful pine wood {12 bottle} wine crates either stained or untreated natural pine in colour or solid or slatted sides. They also have a diverse range of other pine crate styles available to order.
